Thanksgiving Eve is one of the biggest party nights in New York City. Like, one tier down from New Years or Halloween. That may come as a surprise to some but it’s because New York is full of people who are not from New York. According to NYC.gov, there are 3.1 million foreigners living in the city, and therefore, do not celebrate Thanksgiving. They don’t have families begging them to come home for this uniquely American holiday. So what are they going to do when they have the next day off work? Party.
As someone who is a foreigner myself, Thanksgiving Eve has always been one of my favorite nights of the year. Everyone who is left in town is down to dance and you spend the holiday with your chosen family. Your dancefloor family.
The other upside of Thanksgiving Eve parties is all the legendary DJs from New York return home to spend it with their family, so they want to party too. In our listings below we’ve included two club nights with some local heroes. Honorable mentions also go to Eli Escobar’s Dance Dance Dance party at Le Bain and Natasha Diggs’ Soul in the Horn party with Waajeed and LADYMONIX at the Crown Hill Theatre.
Pro tip: Dancing is also a great way to preemptively dance off your turkey dinner.
11.22 - Louie Vega at 3 Dollar Bill
Louie Vega playing 90s classics all night long, yes please! Few can play them like Louie, who was part of New York’s first wave of house music as one half of Masters At Work. So you know he’s got some secret weapons Wednesday. The annual Thanksgiving Eve party, Flashback, at 3 Dollar Bill aims to feed your soul before you feed your body on the holiday weekend with his tasty cuts of house, disco, boogie, and MAW.
11.22 - Soul Connection Friendsgiving at Good Room
Five of New York’s finest female selectors are coming together for a sweet and soulful get down this Wednesday. Beewack, Niyah West, and Sabine Blaizin are Soul Connection’s special guests, joining party residents Honey Bun and Lovie at the holiday-eve party at Good Room. Between the five DJs expect to hear an eclectic mix of disco, house, soul, R&B, Afro, and calypso for a night of heart-filled moments.
11.24 - Tiga b2b Perel at Elsewhere
If you are out of town this weekend, this is one party you’ll wish you were here for. Tiga is a legendary French Canadian DJ and producer and is the cofounder of Turbo Recordings. Perel is a German DJ and producer who has released on labels like DFA Records and Kompakt. What unites these artists is that they make some sexy-ass music. They will be playing back to back at Elsewhere this Friday, throwing down techno, electro, new wave, synth, house and a few hits thrown in for good measure.
