Boat Party - Soul Party
“Music brings us together. Body & SOUL is here because of music; music we love, music we share. Music that can touch us in the most intimate way.”
These words are exactly what going out in NYC is all about. They’re written across the top of the Body & SOUL website, a legendary party started in 1996 by Danny Krivit, Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell, and Francois K. Their idea was to create a house party that got too big for someone’s living room where people from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, and sexuality, could celebrate life on the dancefloor.
The party was started at Tribeca’s Club Vinyl where every week the three DJs would deliver a unique soulful mix of organic and spiritual dance music grooves to rejuvenate one's body and soul. Club Vinyl closed in 2002 but the party lives on today and although it’s no longer a weekly affair, every time these DJs come together, it’s a unifying experience. Two of the three DJs are playing on a boat this Sunday, which you can read about in our listings below.
NYC Nightlife 8/26-8/27
8.26 - Perel at Jolene Sound Room
In what can seem like an endless sea of techno DJs that occupy Berlin, Perel stood out from the crowd with her signature, eclectic blend of thumbing house, electro hits and Italo magic. Add to that the live vocal element of her DJ sets and Perel became one of the biggest names to come out of the European dance music capital in the 2010s. She has since taken her evocative sounds around the world, released on labels like DFA Records and Kompakt, and relocated to New York. She'll be playing to her new home crowd this Saturday night at Jolene.
8.26 - Dino Soccio + DJ Duckcomb In The Bar at public records
Dino Soccio and DJ Duckcomb are two friends who bonded over a shared love of vinyl, disco oddities from around the world, and dad jokes. The LA-based duo are responsible for the Pleasure of Love party and label, on which they’ve put out a slew of pleasurable edits. The pair have a reputation as some of LA’s biggest crate diggers, leaving no record unturned across disco, cosmic, soul, funk, house, and proto. They’re bringing their record bags to the bar of public records this Saturday where you can expect to hear the unexpected.
8.27 - The Lot Radio Full Floor Takeover at Le Bain
The Lot Radio has come to be such a special place for many music lovers in Brooklyn, so much so that it was recently recognized in DJ Mags Best of North America Awards 2023, receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award. It’s not everyday that a shipping container on an abandoned lot wins such an award, so The Lot’s team said, fuck it, let’s have a party to celebrate. And they’ve picked quite the place to do it, taking over the top floor of The Standard Hotel with 16 of their resident DJs playing across Le Bain, the Boom Boom Room, and The Roof. We think it will be quite the celebration and best of all, it’s free if you RSVP.
8.27 - Soul Alliance Boat Party - Circle Line Cruises
Body & SOUL’s Danny Krivit and Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell continue their 27 year tradition of bringing people together through music this Sunday at their annual Soul Alliance Boat Party. The pair will share deep, soulful house and disco grooves with an uplifting message set against the Manhattan skyline at sundown. Parties don’t get much more NYC than this. Prepare to raise your hands in the air to some of the most vibrant music you’ll hear this summer.
