Whether you’re looking to feel the spirit of Christmas or the spirit of disco this weekend, there are countless parties happening across NYC where you can be naughty or nice. Before we talk about the parties we do recommend this weekend, we wanted to point out a few that we don’t necessarily recommend but deserve some props for their hilarious holiday theme or perfect party puns…
BBL On Ice - ice skating and booty shaking at 99 Scott with DJs bossy boots, KOOXLA & Third Self.
All I Want For Xmas Is Acid - A night dedicated to 303s and Christmas Trees at Good Room with Mike Servito, Lauren Flax, WTCHCRFT, Elle Dee, and Kellam Matthews.
Skank The Halls - Original rub a dub riddims and jungle flavors at Wonderville with DJs Cherry Orchard, PlayPlay, MF BUTCH, Alex Viper, Will Miles, antron, lecamille.
Shrek The Halls - A Shrek themed rave at Webster Hall which states ‘It’s dumb, come have fun’.
12.22 - In Flagranti at House of Yes
Mirror mirror on the wall, who are the sleaziest DJs of them all? The answer could only be In Flagranti. The duo of Sasa Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor have been DJing since the 80s, playing a style that could only be described as porn soundtrack disco. Their aesthetic combines music and art with provocative montages of obscure archival images that reflect a dirty, thrift store vibe. They’re bringing their punk party spirit to House of Yes this Friday.
12.22 - Tiki Disco Holiday Party at Good Room
There isn’t one person who has a bad time at Tiki Disco. They have been turning Brooklynites on to the ways of disco since 2009, from humble beginnings at Roberta’s to their summer residency at the Knockdown Center (which sells out every time!). Tiki Disco is celebrating the holiday season with a full club takeover at Good Room this Friday. The trio of Eli Escobar, Lloyd and Andy Pry will be playing in both the main room and Bad Room, all night long.
12.24 - Funky Xmas Sensation with Francois K at Le Bain
François K has been an invaluable member of the NYC dance music community since the 1970s. It's hard to sum up his contribution in one paragraph, but here we go... Over the years François has DJed at legendary clubs like Paradise Garage, Studio 54, The Loft, Zanzibar, Vinyl, Twilo, and The Sound Factory Bar. His own parties Body & Soul and Deep Space became equally as legendary in the 90s and 2000s. He started his career in the studio mixing records for the pivotal disco label Prelude in the 70s and by the 80s he became one of the most in-demand remixers and producers. Over the years he's worked with artists like Larry Levan, Madonna, The Cure, Diana Ross, Mick Jagger, the list goes on. François playing on Christmas Eve at Le Bain sounds like a good present to us.
