Disco Goes Upstate For The Summer

Disco Goes Upstate For The Summer

Every week we will share with you where the best "Music-First" dance parties will be held across New York City. We have some great parties for you this weekend and we're looking ahead to a summer in the woods and on the dancefloor.

Today we’re going to take you to a little slice of disco paradise. It’s called Glen Falls House and it’s a sanctuary for all us music freaks in The Catskills. Brooklyn club Good Room will take over the hotel for its Summer of Joy series and will take some of the city’s best party crews with them.

From this very long July 4th Weekend through Labor Day there will be nine parties with takeovers from the likes of Coloring Lessons x Love Injection (that we’ll talk about in more detail below), Love Games x Chomp ChompEarth BeatPleasure JamsFIXEDThe Level PartyStream Informer, and more.

The Weekenders meet at the perfect intersection of music and nature. There are pool parties, hikes, waterfalls, and other fun outdoor activities during the day, and parties in the Tavern and bonfires each night.

It’s hard to put into words the kind of vibe that Glen Falls House creates for music lovers. If you are kind and respectful, you have the freedom to do whatever you want to do while listening to some of New York’s best selectors. If you want to experience said freedom we recommend heading north (it’s about 2.5 hours from the city) for a weekend or two yourself.

NYC Nightlife 6/30-7/1

6.30 - Maurice Fulton at Jolene Sound Room

An iconic, eccentric, and experimental DJ, there is a lot to be said about Maurice Fulton. The American ex-pat played a key role in the growth of house music worldwide, having a hand in one of the most successful dance music tunes of the ‘90s, Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters. Since then he’s blurred the lines between house, disco, leftfield and dub as a producer and released a stream of consistently excellent music on his Bubbletease Communications label. He has also worked under the aliases Mu, Boof and Syclops and collaborated with artists including Roisin Murphy and Peggy Gou. His DJ sets are rhythmic, melodic, hypnotic, and psychedelic while also being fun so be sure to put on some comfortable shoes for his set at Jolene Sound Room.

6.30-7.2 - Summer of Joy with Coloring Lessons x Universal Love at Glen Falls House

Coloring Lessons and Universal Love are two Brooklyn crews who have been making a lot of noise for the past few years. Coloring Lessons is the party hosted by house wunderkinds, Musclecars, while Universal Love is Love Injection’s night celebrating NYC dance music history. Together they’re taking over Glen Falls House for three days of musical bliss in The Catskills and they’re taking ToribioPhotayBeewack, Butter, Dope JamsHoney BunLovieMarco Weibel, Sweet Kicks and Peer Pressure with them, as well as their Klipsch soundsystem.

6.30 - Soul in The Horn with Timmy Regisford at Arts District

Soul In The Horn is one of NYC’s most beloved parties. Natasha Diggs and DProsper have been bringing together a diverse cross section of the city’s best artists, musicians, dancers, and music lovers since 2008. This Friday the crew is trying out an immersive experience at a new venue, the Arts District in Greenpoint. The party will feature sets from legendary Club Shelter resident Timmy Regisford, UK producer Megatronic (live), and locals L3NiMatthew Law, and Donis, alongside Diggs.

7.1 - Crystal Waters at Bar 13

As we mentioned in an earlier listing, Crystal Waters is responsible for one of the most iconic house music songs of the 90s. So when we hear that she’s playing live at Bar 13 this Saturday, trust us when we say emphatically, ‘GO’! There are some other bonuses to this party, in case Crystal Waters wasn’t enough, like sets from legendary NY house DJ Ray Vazquez and Chicago's house hero Gene Hunt. This is one of those nights that will make you want to scream, gotta have house music all night long.
