It doesn’t get much bigger or better than Masters At Work. The Nuyorican duo of “Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez defined an entire sound in the ‘90s — that of the New York Latin house scene — and their productions and remixes are rinsed in clubs the world over to this day. The MAW discography is loaded with classic after classic, including “To Be In Love”, featuring India, “Deep Inside” under their Hardrive alias, and “The Bomb',' as the Bucketheads. Resident Advisor dubbed Masters at Work “potentially the most influential pairing in the history of house”, and not without good reason. Admired from far beyond the borders of clubland, Vega and Gonzalez have remixed the likes of Madonna, Jamiroquai, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Spice Girls and Daft Punk, and have been nominated for three Grammys. Their Saturday night show marks MAW’s first New York gig since 2019, so it’s bound to be a special one. Don’t miss the chance to see these literal legends spinning soulful funky house in the city where they built their legacy.
04/19/24 Answer Code Request at Basement
Born Patrick Gräser, Answer Code Request debuted on Ostgut Ton in 2012 and became a Berghain resident shortly afterwards, quickly proving he was anything but a run of the mill talent. Featuring intricate textures, breaks, and atmospheric pads, his productions stand echelons above your average 4/4 techno track, and he’s just as formidable on the decks. Gräser leads a stacked techno and house lineup Friday of Concrete Husband, KXAH, Analog Soul, MoMA Ready, and Toribio making his Basement debut.
04/19/24 DJ Sprinkles + Jenifa Mayanja / Marie Montexier + Lauren Ritter / Greg Paulus at Public Records
Japan-based DJ Sprinkles, aka Terre Thaemlitz, is a true iconoclast. She cut her teeth at New York record shops and clubs in the ‘80s, but is as much a student of identity politics and socioeconomics as she is of house music. Her intellectual pursuits are inseparable from her artistic passions, meaning that her productions and DJ sets are not only stylistically astonishing, they’re also imbued with a rare critical depth. Your deep and danceable journey awaits.
