Ok so she’s not strictly a dance artist but she’s definitely a legend, and we love legends here. The one and only Björk (!!) is gracing us with her presence in New York this weekend, a mere week after Four Tet held a two day festival under the very same bridge. Her DJ sets are a rarity, so we feel especially honored that she’s chosen to do it here, and can’t wait to hear the uniquely thrilling collage of sounds she’s likely to put together for us. Two of Björk’s supporting artists on Saturday night, Eartheater and Shygirl, featured in one of her earlier sets — it’s clear that the lineup has been carefully curated by Björk herself so we can expect an evening of boundary-pushing sounds and high fashion (go check their IGs; trust me, looks will be served). Mun Sing, whose album was named one of last year’s best by Resident Advisor, DJed with Björk in her Reykjavik hometown a few months back; Sega Bodega has just announced a big US and Europe tour later this year. An iconic event in one of the world’s most iconic cities. Get there.
5.9.24 Rooftop Opening Day at Elsewhere with DJ Fuckoff and Coffintexts
We’re pumped for this — first because any rooftop opening day is a good day, and secondly because the lineup is especially killer. Berlin’s fave (New Zealand-born) bad gal DJ Fuckoff promises to get rowdy and probably a little raunchy. She plays sexxxy music spanning techno, juke, breaks, psytrance and more — all typically fast, hard, and vaguely horny. Meanwhile, Miami bass star Coffintexts is more than up to the task of supporting. Her own style is similarly broad-ranging and brawny, showcasing the gamut of oddball UK techno with lashings of Latin club. We can’t promise the weather will turn up, but the music is guaranteed to be hot.
5.10.24 Björk (DJ Set) Under the K
Yeah, you read that right. Björk. THE Björk. Playing a DJ set. In New York. Under the freaking K bridge! But wait, there’s more. The Icelandic mother of all mothers will be supported by the fabulously freaky Eartheater, the marvellously talented Jlin, before she heads to play a show at the Sydney Opera House in June, and others including Shygirl playing a Club Shy set. Make like your best troll and get thee under the bridge stat.
5.11.24 DJ Plead + ADAB/ rrao + gbd/ Kfeelz at Public Records
Melbourne’s DJ Plead has been making waves of late. Now based in Berlin, he’s fresh from contributing to the new Logic1000 album, but it’s his own productions and DJ sets, threaded with Middle Eastern influences and scintillating percussive elements, that are earning him hype around the globe. He’s joined by dub/jungle maestro ADAB, rrao + gbd (fka savile) and Kfeelz.
